[ Inner demons talking] Okay, you need to write a post you shouldn’t be delaying it that much Nida, otherwise you will again get stuck in the same loop of procrastination & being lazy. But I can’t think of any topic to write about, I don’t feel inspired. Once Hubby also said: ‘But you had so many topics in mind when you first started blogging.” & I am sitting here just biting my nails off & can’t think of anything to write! This creative block or writer’s block whatever you call it is seriously very annoying. Scrolling through old posts looking for motivation I bumped into my Find motivation for blogging post, some really good basic points for a kick start. But I am talking about when you start but feel like you had a brain drain. No creative juices are flowing, nope nothing is happening. That’s why writing this blog post was essential because whatever ideas I have right now I want to write them down & why not share with you guys.
Mostly when I have a writer’s block/ creative block I just let Zahra sit in my lap & probably watch something on youtube or I will spend mindless hours scrolling through my Instagram feed to the point that I feel that I am just wasting time, precious time. & all this is happening while I am sitting on my desk all ready to take off with my blog post but nothing, nada. So well, what do I do next? I search & compile a list of things to do that can help your, mine, everyone’s creative block. Here it goes
Press the Power Off button:
That’s for your brain. Just like we have to charge our phones, laptops etc we need to charge our minds too. Don’t force yourself to write when you have a creative block, your work won’t be your best of course but in addition to that, your readers will be able to guess that you are not your usual self. It’s better to wait out in this situation & get away from it to refresh your mind.
Sometimes, the best thing you can do is give up.
Go for a Walk:
It surely works for me & I am certain that it will work for you too. Whenever I am down/low or I feel that my creative tank is empty, I love to go sit outside on our patio I stare at the sky look at the long trees. I remember before having my baby & probably during my teens. I use to go for long walks with my earphones plugged in & not caring about the world. But that was surely the best time. Definitely trying to get back at it but let’s see when time permits. Nature has a way to get to us & make our creative juices flow. When I look at how perfectly God created everything, I automatically feel inspired.
Listen to Music:
There were days when I don’t remember I did anything else except listening to music & songs, yet again that was my teens but after probably a certain age we lose interest in music & that’s what happened with me. I use to have all my music organized in my mp3 player or computer but not anymore, well now we have youtube. You know, when you are stuck like this? Let yourself daydream with those earphones on. Recently, I started listening to songs & music again. I would always start from my favorite songs, these days I am hooked on Vidya Vox. This girl has some serious talent, she does a fusion of Indian & English songs. If you follow me on Instagram, you might have already seen some clips on my insta-story.
Brainstorm:
I love Pinterest when it comes to this. I love writing about lifestyle topics, so mostly I search in that category. Another tip is to work around random words like inspiration, creativity, life, self-esteem- positive body image & search random quotes related to them. A lot of times, a quote triggers something & I am motivated to write again. Also, bloglovin where different blog posts appear from random bloggers. Don’t forget to follow me on bloglovin. 🙂
Confront it:
In other words, fight your inner demons & instead of running away from the problem, sit down and try to figure out what’s going on? Maybe you are just tired, or you are focusing too much on the numbers. Maybe you are comparing your creativity to someone else, or maybe you just feel lazy. Whatever it is, listen to yourself & give yourself that space till you feel revived. You don’t have to beat yourself on it, at one point or another even the most creative people have faced a creative block.
Ultimately, it’s all about using what little you have & what you know, positively, sincerely & consistently; hoping to make a difference.
Hope this post helped, don’t forget to share or pin it for later.
