When I started blogging a few years back, things were a lot different than they are now. The only reason I started it was to spread positivity and for the love of writing. But lately, I find myself struggling. It’s the self-doubt that creeps up & constantly whispers to me:
What if I am not good enough?
What if nobody is going to read that? or like my writing?
Oh, your numbers are just going down.
Make sure your worst enemy is not living between your own two ears.
I find it so hard to focus on what I want & to actually be myself in today’s world. Therefore, I hop on the computer and started searching for inspirational posts, Ted Talks of people who have been through similar situations in their life. It could be related to your new startup or a new job that you are looking for. Basically, It could be anything that is result oriented.
I remember, there was a time in my life when I was fearless & I always believed in myself but these days, it seems like a struggle every day. Therefore, my inspirational captions on Instagram is a way of reminding myself that life is ok, gratitude is key, count your blessings, look at the brighter side of life etc But sometimes just a caption doesn’t work & you really need something to kick that sense into you. Hence, I compiled this list of things to overcome self-doubt while blogging especially when Social Media and algorithms are messing up our minds.
- Find Your Niche: (People that will love you)
Niche is key. Knowing your target market & for whom you are writing really helps. Just focus on one person & then base your writing on that. You will always be true in your posts. Your inner voice will stay genuine & authentic. It could be women, mothers, fashion related posts, people who like to read about beauty, etc. You basically have to learn the art of combining what you love to write about and portray it in a way that your readers will get hooked on it as well. so when I want to write about my trip to Venice, I share it as 5 reasons why Venice should be on your bucket list instead of My Trip to Venice. Because if someone is taking out 5 minutes of their lives to read my post, I want to give them some value/fun back.Read More: 6 Tips to stand out in the world of social media
- Remember: Why you started?
Was it because you love writing? taking photos? Then even getting a few likes and authentic followers are all that you need. Blogging is different for all of us, some people do it to get over depression, for some people it is one of the best ways to express themselves, and for some their livelihood depends on it. The reason could be anything but whenever you feel lost come back to the beginning & remind yourself of why you started. You have to think about how much I have grown during the process & how much I have learned? Once you understand, the true value that you have gained, nothing else will matter.
- Forget the numbers: (Yes- Don’t be obsessed)
Whenever I get too much into stats or number of followers, the whole blogging process becomes a stressful process than an enjoyable one. Blogging should be fun for me & not a source of more stress in life. I remind myself that first of all: my content won’t reach everyone and secondly, not everyone will like the content I write. And that’s okay. Even if there is one person, who messages me & tells me, my post made a difference to them- I feel amazing- amazing enough to keep writing.
To keep writing: Find that Amazing enough moment for you.
- Fight your self-doubt:
Self-doubt only makes you human, & it’s okay to doubt yourself once in a while But if doubting yourself is creating a writer’s block then you need to Stop. You need to remember, this blog is your creative outlet for fun & to share the things that you love. Stop thinking about what other’s will think, not many will agree with you. And that’s completely fine. Your superpower is that you are you & there is no one like you.
- Inspire yourself:
In this era, when we have access to all the knowledge in the world, we decide to mindlessly scroll through our feeds lol. Instead of doing that and burning up your creativity, indulge in a good book, or a motivational Ted Talk, audiobook or someone else story to spark that ray of motivation in you. This one always helps me & my number one rule of motivating myself.
- Talk to Someone:
Most of the time when my self-doubt starts kicking in, I go ahead start discussing it with my husband or my sisters. I always share with them what I am feeling. And honestly, I am never disappointed with the responses I get. They are always encouraging & always remind me to compare my today with my first day of blogging & how I actually started. And that’s what I tried to do here. I wanted to remind you guys, to find the core reason in your heart of why you started & hold on to that. Sometimes sharing & talking about your vulnerabilities with someone close can give you a totally different perspective on the same situation.
- Take a break:
When everything goes in vain, close your laptop, disconnect and just take a break. Spend time with your family, watch a classic movie or ready an inspirational book. Sometimes social media gets on my nerves so I take a small breather. I leave my phone on my bedside table for a long time & just indulge in a good book. And honestly, I am loving it. It helps me concentrate & focus on what I am reading And also helps me get back on track.
Always remember, everybody goes through self-doubt but with determination, faith and these tips you can block it out of your mind for good.
